I recently noticed an article in Steppin' Out, a Warren County monthly publication which noted the Alegheny National Forest Chapter of the North Country Trail Association would be starting a 100-cache geotrail called the NCT Geotrail. The trail will include 100 separate caches spread across 100 miles of hiking trails beginning at the New York-Pennsylvania border and continuing south of Marienville. Added to the existing caches along the NCT, this will provide a wonderful opportunity for finds. If you are looking for a super hike while at GeoWoodstock, any strectch of the NCT will provide an epic journey. If you can team up, you can use two vehicle to shuttle the trail and enjoy a long one-way hike. This has been a special place for us. We chose this trail for our 1000th find. It is a great place to make a GeoWoodstock memory of your own. The trail is expected to go live on June 1st so bring your hiking gear to GeoWoodstock.
While you are on the trail, there are a few opportunities for fun Waymarking visits such as this border crossing.
The North Country Trail passes very close to the Allegheny Reservoir. This section near Sugar Bay is quite pleasant.
Large groupings of monarda should be in bloom during GeoWoodstock.
Our Geodogs enjoy each visit here. Eva has never met a rock she doesn't want to climb.
